Obtaining a professional designation
Professional titles and designations
The Chartered Life Underwriter (C.L.U.) and Registered Life Underwriter (R.L.U.) titles and the Conseiller agréé en avantages sociaux (C.A.A.S.) designation awarded by the Chambre are marks of recognition that attest to rigorous academic training and a commitment to best professional practices.
There are also numerous complementary training programs that enable professionals to further specialize without necessarily leading to a professional qualification. These programs can meet specific market needs, support the development of targeted skills or promote career advancement in related sectors.
Registered Life Underwriter and Chartered Life Underwriter
In order to give its members who hold a licence in insurance of persons or in group insurance the opportunity to gain greater expertise in their area of practice, the Chambre exclusively confers two professional titles: chartered life underwriter (C.L.U.) and registered life underwriter (R.L.U.).
Learning Program
The program leading to the title of registered life underwriter (R.L.U.) includes:
- Eight (8) university courses (360 hours) and
- The Concepts in insurance of persons, program developed by the CSF (37 hours).
The program leading to the title of chartered life underwriter (C.L.U.) includes:
- Sixteen (16) university courses (720 hours), 8 of which are the same as for the R.L.U. title and
- The Concepts in insurance of persons, program developed by the CSF (37 hours).
Objectives
The university training leading to the titles of C.L.U. and R.L.U. promotes the development of knowledge about estate and tax planning as well as insurance and financial products for individuals and businesses, and provides more in-depth knowledge about disability and critical illnesses insurance, group insurance and investments.
The program “Les concepts en assurance de personnes” was designed to hone the knowledge of financial security advisers regarding the various products available on the market and to develop their ability to identify and analyze financial needs so they can make recommendations that best suit their clients’ requirements.
