Income gaps within couples: understanding challenges and supporting your clients (sector: insurance of persons)

Chambre de la sécurité financière
4 PDUs

About 50% of de facto spouses believe they have the same rights as married couples

In reality, de facto spouses have far fewer legal protections, notably in the event of a separation. The financial consequences can be significant, especially when there is an income gap between the spouses.

This CE course will help you better understand the issues related to income gaps within de facto couples. It offers resources and best practices to guide your clients toward informed decisions to better protect their future.

You’ll follow Karim Laurent, a financial services advisor, as he works with his clients in a de facto union. By listening to audio clips, you’ll discover the challenges they face and explore them further through interviews with experts in sociology, law, financial planning, and economic violence. These professionals will provide practical advice to help you better inform your clients, foster their reflection, and encourage them to act early.

This course is based on research conducted by the Chaire argent, inégalités et société, a research and training chair created through a partnership between the CSF and the Centre Urbanisation Culture Société of the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS).

Important: This course includes several recorded interviews totaling approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. The interviews are subtitled in English but are not dubbed. A transcript is provided for each video.
