CSF and CIRO renew agreement on recognition of continuing education for mutual fund representatives

The Chambre de la sécurité financière (CSF) and the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) have renewed their agreement on the exchange of information to facilitate recognition of the continuing education program for mutual fund representatives practicing both in Québec and in another Canadian province.

Benefits for mutual fund representatives

Continuing education hours recognized by the CSF will count towards CIRO's requirements for mutual fund dealer representatives (MFD) for their Professional Development and Business Conduct Credits. CSF members who have completed the 30 CSF-required continuing education units (10 in compliance, 10 in general subjects and 10 in mutual funds) will automatically meet their obligations to CIRO, provided they have also completed their MFD Compliance Credits.

In addition, CIRO will forward to the CSF information on members who have obtained their two MFD Compliance Credits. As these credits are recognized by the CSF, they will be added to the member's file.

The continuing education cycles of the two organizations are harmonized, with the current cycle running from December 1, 2023 to November 30, 2025. The exchange of information between the CSF and CIRO will begin in September 2025 and end in February 2026, when the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) issues the certificate suspension notices* for the current cycle.

The agreement between the CSF and CIRO is one of many initiatives set up to support members and help them comply with their important professional obligations, while reducing their administrative burden.

"Once again this year, our actions fully reflect our commitment to our members. The enriched welcome program for new advisors, the new Insight Sessions - whose topics are closely linked to the continuing education cycle - and the recent launch of the interactive FAQ and live chat service facilitate our exchanges with the community, while fostering the autonomy of professionals. Added to this is the democratization of our quality training offering, and increasingly targeted communications. Together, these efforts aim to provide a more fluid, proactive and accessible experience for all our members," says Yoan Muzart, CSF's Director of Community Relations.
